We not only supply coal to our industrial and governmental customers, we also provide transportation contracts/services, ash disposal, beneficial re-use and railcar unloading services. Our professional staff has over 200 years of combined experience in:

  1. Coal production, preparation and quality control.
  2. Coal Burning and power plant operations and maintenance.
  3. Transportation management and logistics.
  4. Contract administration and inventory control.
We supply coal from operations in eastern Kentucky, southwest Virginia and West Virginia. We offer delivery via truck, rail (CSX and Norfolk Southern), barge or rail to truck. We focus on industrial and governmental users of stoker and 2xO steam coals. Our coal suppliers can blend coals in order to meet required chemical or physical characteristics.

The majority of our suppliers have the capability of shipping either single cars or unit trains. All have reserve bases of 10 + years. Our operations produce a combination of strip mined and deep mined (washed) coal. We have supply experience with the following types of customers:

We are capable of and are currently shipping both low sulfur and high sulfur coals, steam coals, sized coals and specialty coals (low metals or ultra low ash metallurgical grade coals).

In addition to supplying coal and related services J & J Energy works exclusively with Transloading Services Inc.(T.S.I.). T.S.I. provides railcar unloading services for some of our customers which allows them to achieve the economy of rail service and the convenience and cost reduction (lower in-plant unloading cost) of truck delivery. Historically, J & J Energy, Inc. has marketed freeze conditioning agents, dust suppressants and other winterizing agents to coal shippers. Due to the growth of this industry segment, the chemical division was spun off in 2001 into a new company, C.T.S. Industries, Inc.. C.T.S. also markets chemical change reagents to the synthetic fuel industry by virtue of becoming the exclusive sales agent for Benefuel™ J316 (Patent Pending).   • Melvin A. Richardson - CPA: 25+ years of experience in coal production, preparation, sales, transportation, logistics and quality control.
  • James M. Hoye - P.E.: 35+ years of experience in a coal fired power plant, in the areas of power house operations and maintenance.
  • Kevin Anderson 25+ years of experience in coal sourcing, quality control, and logistics.
  • Jim Lester - 20+ years of experience with the cement industry. The last 10 have been directly involved with coal supply, logistics, ash disposal and beneficial re-use of waste materials.
  • Jerry Conner - 30+ years of experience in construction, heavy equipment, mining, aggregate, material handling, transportation and transloading.
  • Hugh Daly - 35+ years of experience in management, planning and procurement with the coal and transportation industries.
